It's a prime-time Gene Pool/Invitational -- coming Thursday evening
Meanwhile, read Gene's tale of Buster, the mayor of his neighborhood
Hi, all:
The Empress invites you to save the date — well, the hour of 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 — for a special evening edition of The Gene Pool, with a brand-new Invitational contest (Week 5) plus the results of this year’s “Joint Legislation,” a wordplay contest that combines the names of various congressional freshmen as “cosponsors.” I don’t want to spill the results, but will note that there were many Ogles-Self bills to promote narcissism. (Thanks, Reps. Andy Ogles and Keith Self!)
And of course Gene Weingarten will lead his weekly Q&A. In fact, if you didn’t get the link earlier, today he posted a must-read piece about Buster, the unofficial but widely acknowledged mayor of his D.C. neighborhood. And also a mini-Q&As session, on such topics as how guilty should you feel for wishing very bad things on some former president; the relative merits of Adam Sandler; and whether it’s okay to participate in the chat while sitting on the toilet. There’s a link to the questions from the Buster piece, or go straight to them here.
Meanwhile, our Week 4 Invitational is still running — deadline Friday night: It’s called Questionable Journalism: You choose any sentence from an article or ad published this week -- and follow it, in our trademark A-and-Q style, with a question that the sentence could humorously answer. See the contest here (scroll down to the first subhead) ; there's also a link to this week's entry form. New! First Offenders, those who never got ink in our previous Invitational incarnation, will get the famed FirStink for First Ink -- one of those tree-shaped air "fresheners" with a sticker on it.
Meanwhile, if you’re not signed up to subscribe to this site right here, you might as well click here for the inflation-be-damned price of Zilch.
Want even more Loserly stuff? Banter and share humor with the Losers and the Empress in the Style Invitational Devotees group on Facebook; join and the Devs will anagram your name every which way. (We just had a great live party, with 75 people, here in the D.C. area; check it out in the Devs group and find out about our future Loser events.)
And check out the Style Invitational Ink of the Day on Facebook, with more than 1,000 classic entries in graphic form.
See you Thursday!
Pat Myers, Empress of The Invitational
