Four more Bob Staake zanies await you. Plus winning poems featuring new dictionary words. And once again, an important announcement.
Cartoons by Bob Staake for The Washington Post
Greetings to you a day early, as we are each year on Thanksgiving week. And so you have an extra day for
WAIT A SECOND … TIME’S RUNNING OUT!
ATTENTION: I reallllly don’t want to do this, but to stay within the rules of this very nice publisher: If you were receiving this newsletter before Nov. 5, 2021, pleeez reply to this email (or email me at myerspat@gmail.com) to tell me that you want to keep getting it (or even that you don’t want to). If you don’t opt in by Nov. 30, I’m going to have to remove your subscription. After that, you can always sign up again by just clicking on a button and giving your email address, but how about just hitting Reply right now and asking for more, more, more, and I’ll be yours forever?
Thank you for your help — Pat Myers, Empress of The Style Invitational
Thanks to all of you who’ve responded so far, and so warmly! (Well, most of the time.)

Now, where were we …
Those cartoons above? I’m just teasing you here: Bob of course drew us four full, typically zany cartoons for this week’s caption contest. See them in full in Style Invitational Week 1464 in The Washington Post and write as many as 25 captions among them; deadline is Monday, Dec. 6.
AND we have the winners of our annual contest for funny poems featuring words and other terms newly added to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary — including dad bod, FTW and wiener roast.
Meanwhile: There’s a new podcast episode! In his 18th installment of “You’re Invited,” host Mike Gips banters with a half-dozen Losers in a game show setting. It’s scheduled to drop late Wednesday, Nov. 24, at bit.ly/invite-podcast.
I’m skipping my online supplementary column, The Style Conversational, this week (Empresses have to cook, too). But if you’re new to Invite cartoon contests, you can check out the results of literally dozens of previous ones: Go to the cartoon contest sub-list of the Loser Community’s own Master Contest List at its website, NRARS.org, and, at the far right of each listing, click on “Contest Image” (print) or “Post e-version” (Web) to see the old cartoons and captions. (I’d focus on the ones near the bottom of the list.)
Happy Thanksgiving! And Hanukkah, while we’re at it.

*That's Loser with a capital L; named for the runner-up prizes emblazoned "LOSER," the community of regular Style Invitational entrants now proudly calls itself the Losers. If you enter the Invite, you're a Genuine Loser. But not (necessarily) a loser.
