If you’re not yet getting this newsletter by email (or if you got dropped because you didn’t expressly opt in since we moved over to Substack): By all means …
This week is the first of our two annual do-over contests: For Week 1467, it’s the first half of the year, with contests including our perennial favorites “joint legislation” and foal names, plus some uniques like our contest for photos or dioramas featuring cicadas — this time, you have your choice of bug. You’ll see all 24 eligible contests, plus important guidelines, in this week’s Style Conversational column. Deadline Dec. 27.
And we have an instant-classic set of results with our inking spoonerism riddles, like this runner-up by Ryan Martinez:
How is southern South America like Andrew Cuomo?
One is Patagonia, the other is gonna pat ya.
Or this one by Sam Mertens:
How is a public health decree like going out on the town with Rep. Waters in a Chevy Astro?
One is a vaccine mandate; the other is a Maxine van date.
Also in the Conversational: some spoonerisms that didn’t pass the Invite taste test. (They’re all the way at the bottom, so if you have taste, stop reading before then.)
